Opening The Windows Of Heaven

Last Friday I got a group email from members in my ward (congregation) spreading the word that our Stake President (spiritual leader over a group of wards) was requesting that all of us include as part of our fasting and prayers this weekend a specific request to heaven for “more moisture“, and to spread the word to others to do likewise. We have been enjoying such glorious warm sunny weather in Utah! Spring came very eager and early – and it’s been glorious!

But … without the usual spring storms, we’ve been headed toward serious drought conditions. So, everyone living in the Bountiful Mueller Park Stake (nine wards, or about 4,000 people) were planning to be fasting and praying for “more moisture”

Sunday dawned another beautiful, warm sunny day. The forecast for the week as far as I know was more of the same. But, after hearing two particularly heart-felt pleading prayers for “more moisture” during our Sacrament meeting I turned to my friend Debby and whispered “well, I guess we better get out our umbrellas, and not plan on washing our cars this week!”

I wasn’t joking. I know the strength of the faith in this area. These are the same brothers, sisters, neighbors and friends who fasted and prayed for my daughter to rise from her critical sickbed. The same brothers, sisters, neighbors and friends who fasted and prayed for countless other healings and miracles I’ve witnessed over the past eleven years we’ve lived here, not to mention withstanding the mighty wind storm together and cancelling church to help each other clean up our natural disaster…. just to mention a few.

There was no doubt in my mind we were definitely going to see some rain this week.

But, apparently all those offerings and prayers were just too big for “some rain.” 🙂

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” – Malachi 3:10

  1. I guess all of your snow is about gone today, but it sure was a beautiful sight. I looked to see how much that converted to if it had been rain, and it was anywhere from .8″ to 1″. Not as much as I thought. Of course, the snow will melt more gradually into the ground and your likelihood of any flooding is less. I hope it was enough moisture to help your situation. God is so faithful to answer our prayers.

      1. Hadn’t heard about the 50″. Wow. That was significant. At a church where I used to go, the pastor would say – God is Good – and the congregation would answer – All the time. How true.
