Singing With Angels Movie With MoTab

I got to be a “movie star” yesterday for the upcoming feature film Singing With Angels, and there was definitely some heavenly intervention involved! The past week I’ve been “down and out” laying in bed with a terrible illness – fever/aches/congestion/cough you name it – binge-watching episodes of HGTV home makeovers in-between being catatonic, feeling miserable and sorry for myself. You know I’m ill when I’m home all week but don’t even have any energy to blog! I figured this was the dreaded virus “going around” and I knew that meant I was just going to have to wait it out. But, in desperation I finally went to the clinic Monday in hope for a magic cure. The doctor agreed to try some antibiotics since I had all signs of a sinus infection. Sure enough, Tuesday morning I woke up feeling better than I’d been in days – [three cheers for Amoxicillin!] – and although I wasn’t 100% myself, I definitely felt like I had finally entered the Land of the Living. Best of all, I was well enough just in the nick of time to join my much-anticipated movie filming gig at the Tabernacle. #miracle

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is collaborating with Candlelight Media Group on a feature film to be released sometime in the near future [possibly Fall 2015] called “Singing With Angels“. It tells the story of a woman going through the audition process, her experience with membership in the Choir and how it interweaves with her personal life. The script was built out of true-life experiences that Choir members submitted to the production company. From what I have seen so far, I think this movie is going to take audience members on a very realistic journey of what it’s like to become and serve as a member of one of the world’s most famous musical organizations – often called “America’s Choir” – with all of it’s many ups and downs, personal trials and triumphs.

I was in the Tabernacle for over 8 hours of filming yesterday. The first 5 hours I was as part of a small group of choir women where we were filmed in close-up shots around the leading lady’s character Aubrey [played by actress Sarah Kent] – in the Choir loft. Later in the evening we were joined by a majority of the choir members filling the loft for large group shots. We had multiple costume changes for the different scenes that were being filmed. I always love watching the “process” of a movie project come together and feeling the energy of so much creative talent focused on a common goal. Many aspects were reminiscent of my last epic movie project – the Worlds Largest living Nativity with The Piano Guys.

Since becoming a member of the Choir seven years ago it’s been hard for me to describe the impact of my journey to others. I’ve often wished that everyone could experience in some measure what it’s really like to be a part of this historic organization. Not only the amazing highs that people may imagine –  such as standing in front of vast audiences singing incredible music, and developing family-strong bonds with fellow singers – but, also to know about the overlooked details; the unseen sacrifices, and untold heartaches that are continually being processed and overcome behind the scenes. I think that learning all of these aspects is the only way an audience can truly understand the unique sound and power of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. To fully appreciate the healing comfort and peace that listening to the Choir’s music brings, one needs to go into the very heart and soul of its members; to feel the miracles, and see how angels support and sing with us.

This unique film is going to try to capture all of that, which is an ambitious undertaking. But, based on the filming experience I had yesterday, I’m feeling positive that viewers are in for a very special treat. – MoSop
