Here is my thought for the day. A simple quote by a Christian pastor named Chip Ingram about Daily Bread really got me thinking some deeper thoughts than “what’s for dinner?” and “I gotta get this project done for my boss by 5!”
So, I created a photo quote out of it to hang next to my computer – which also happens to be perfectly sized for a Facebook Cover (if you feel so inclined to use it).
Wisdom.
Quite frankly, I’m pretty sure I’ve been “burning my daily bread” for years.
But, thankfully, God is not only patient, He’s an optimist and keeps giving me more ingredients.
When you think about it, every day is an opportunity to “bake something new” with our lives. We can bake something cruel or kind. We can bake something hurtful or helpful. We can bake something negative or positive. We can bake something destructive or uplifting.
There’s going to be days we make a mess.
Just like baking, there’s a lot of trial and error in living. Hopefully, we learn a thing or two, and we move on.
Some days might simply be about creating “basic sustenance” for survival.
We get through those days.
Other days, we might have the experience and strength to create something really special and delicious – even gourmet – from the minutes and hours and opportunities we’ve been allotted.
We are often encouraged to ask ourselves the question:
“Am I ready to let my actions be a reflection of my faith in God?”
That is certainly important.
However, I’d like to propose we re-frame the question from time to time to:
“Am I ready to let my actions be a reflection of God’s faith in me?”
Food for thought.
What will you do with your ingredients today? – MoSop
Certainly thought provoking…. Thank you, Holly!

Holly, what an amazing post. I think it’s one of your best. We’ve all been taught from a young age that, “Give us this day our daily bread”, from the Lord’s Prayer means provide us with what we need. I’ve heard many sermons on this topic, believing God for our needs. But, it’s never been expressed this way. When we stop and think about the things God has provided us with, the ingredients as you said, we are responsible for what we do with them. It’s not just that we’ll get an unexpected windfall and now we can pay that bill. It’s everything we need for our whole lives, not just money or food. It’s funny that “Bread” is slang for money or food. But you’ve made me see it as so much more in this context. It can be anything I need, and God has provided the ingredients for me to do what it takes to meet my needs. I hadn’t looked at it that way before. Bless you Holly, for sharing your faith and insight into the scriptures.
Love you, Lynne

Holly:
Thank you for “re-framing” the question. We can so easily forget that God has faith in us, faith that we will respond to His grace. We respond to His grace when we use our “daily bread” to “create something really special and delicious” as you so beautifully express it.
I love your website.

Hey Holly. I’ve been battling severe depression and anxiety these past few weeks and as I read this post at 1:50am (still unable to get my mind to slow down), it gave me a much needed change in perspective. I’m so grateful that you took the time to share your ponderings. Maybe I’m meant to make flat-bread instead of the yeast rolls I keep trying to turn out…

Preeti, thank you so much for sharing that. I am very sorry that you have been battling depression. I have fought that battle for many years – thankfully have found a great therapist and medication that helps. Hang on. Things do get better. I encourage you to keep advocating for yourself and looking for the best treatments for your individual situation. And you might enjoy seeing Seth Adam Smith’s Blog and video here. You are loved. ♥
(P.S. I love flat bread! What would Gyros be without it?)
