The 25-year-old Mexico City, Mexico Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints closed for renovation in March 2007. It has been a long wait for the faithful saints of that area to have their temple open again. This month, the greatly anticipated rededication ceremony took place!
When Latter-day Saint temples undergo significant renovation or reconstruction, it is the custom to open them to the public again for tours. Following the Mexico City temple tours, it was formally rededicated on Sunday, 16 November 2008 (Read Entire Prayer Here).
There are over one million Latter-day Saints in Mexico. For a quarter of them, this will be the nearest temple. In conjunction with the temple re-dedication, there was also a large cultural celebration of music and dance performed at a nearby Mexico City stadium.
In attendance from the church First Presidency was LDS prophet President Thomas S. Monson, and his First Counselor President Henry B. Eyring, along with Pres. Eyring’s wife, and Ann Dibb, a counselor in the LDS Young Women’s Organization (who is also Pres. Monson’s daughter).
Latter-day Saint temples differ from the Church’s chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Temples are considered the “Houses of the Lord” where Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and strengthen their commitment to serve Jesus Christ and their fellowman.
There is nothing more joyful for members of the church than to have an operating temple nearby! I rejoice with my fellow saints in Mexico!! This fun news report shows beautiful video of the inside of the temple, and includes President Monson singing a solo for the crowd in Spanish!:Vodpod videos no longer available.
BONUS: Watch The Entire Address Given By President Monson at the event in English and Espanol! “Presidente monson durante actividad cultural en el estadio azteca, promesa y bendicion a la juventud”. This is a home video. The sound is not spectacular, but it has a good picture, and if you turn up the volume you will be able to hear the funny stories, and later the prophet’s sweet blessing upon the youth:Vodpod videos no longer available.
Good information in this post, keep up the great work. Cheers.

Luis, I cannot offer any expertise on your specific Geneological research questions. You will need to go to FAMILYSEARCH.org – if you still have difficulty, their contact information can be found there as well. Do not give up. Best wishes on success!
