Prophets Trump Hollywood: God Wins

A few days ago an epic movie “adaptation” about a renown ancient prophet battling the elements [among other things] hit the silver screen. There’s been quite a stir raised over the film maker’s interpretation of scriptural events. A vastly negative reaction almost seemed to come as a surprise to Hollywood. As it turns out, prophets are still very much revered in the hearts of a large majority of people. Perhaps Hollywood was even banking on that demographic, however, they missed the memo about how debasing of revered prophets and/or rewriting of holy history doesn’t actually go over well. At all.

I know, “shocker”, right?

In a brilliant play of poetic irony, Hollywood dealt their hand and now it’s God’s turn.

It just so happens that another revered prophet will be featured in a very different, yet equally anticipated media event this coming weekend. [Coincidence? I think not]. The holy prophet of this dispensation will be speaking live, globally, and free of charge. The audience will not be wowed with blockbuster special effects. But, for those who choose to attend, tune in, watch & listen, there promises to be something much more lasting;

Powerful, personal spiritual effects.

[Oh, and a great soundtrack,of course]

“And there came prophets in the land again, crying repentance unto them—that they must prepare the way of the Lord” – Ether 9:28

Throughout history, God has chosen prophets to serve as His representatives and spokesmen on earth. Prophets make known God’s will and true character. They speak boldly and clearly, denouncing sin and warning of its consequences. At times, they may be inspired to prophesy of future events for our benefit. The ultimate calling of every prophet is to stand as a personal witness of Jesus Christ, to prophesy of Christ, to preach his gospel, and to guide us back to God our Heavenly Father.

The Prophet Isaiah fortells Christ

Whether encouraging, counselling or warning, the prophet speaks the words God wants to be said.

“But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.” – Jeremiah 1:7

The prophet Moses teaches the Israelites

This weekend today’s prophets and apostles will be speaking to the world. Millions of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across the world add their personal witness of living prophets and apostles. We hold dear to our hearts the blessings of peace and hope that comes in the knowledge that God is Not Dead, and that He is in fact, Still Speaking!

“Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets” – Amos 3:7

“He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward” – Matt 10:41

The scriptures detail two kinds of rewards when we “receive” a prophet of God; we get something for now and something for later.

“Behold, this is according to the law and the prophets…he who doeth the works of righteousness shall receive his reward, even peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come.” – D&C 59:23

Hollywood can’t top that! 😉

God will be speaking this weekend to the world through His chosen prophet and apostles. What will He say?

Why not tune in, and find out.

It’s going to be epic.  – MoSop
