“Down in the River to Pray” (also known as “Down to the River to Pray,” “Down in the Valley to Pray,” “The Good Old Way,” and “Come, Let Us All Go Down”) is a traditional American song variously described as a Christian folk hymn, an African-American spiritual, an Appalachian song, and a gospel song. It gained popularity in 2000 after Alison Krauss performed it for the soundtrack of the Coen Brothers film, O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

Love this song and the way the choir sings it. I have the Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing CD with this on it. I also have it on my iPod and play it quite often in my car. So many of Mack Wilberg’s arrangements, not necessarily this one, remind me of Aaron Copeland music and I love them. I have more MoTab Choir music on my iPod than any others. Absolutely my favorite music. By the way, I also have Allison Krauss’ version on there too. Love that song, but seldom ever play hers after hearing yours.
