It’s Here! General Conference Is For You

I am a tiny tot with her eyes all aglow, and I surely find it hard to sleep tonight! General Conference is here! It always feels like the most excellent Christmas to me, and guess what? You’re ALL INVITED to attend the celebration with me! Oh, please do come! You don’t want to miss this! You can watch or listen this weekend. I promise there is a message waiting, like a shiny present from heaven, just for you. (But you have to “be present” to receive “the present”) I have learned that if I bring my questions, worries, and concerns to Conference and I listen carefully, I always receive the answers, guidance, and peace I need. That is the promise of God – to always answer our prayers – both those we utter, and those in our hearts. And one of the best ways our Father in Heaven can answer us is through inspiring His chosen prophets and leaders to speak the words that He wants us to hear. It’s His pattern since the beginning of time. God has always called holy prophets and inspired leaders to speak through, and when the words are written down they’ve become what we call “the scriptures.” Holy books. Sacred writings.

When the words are being heard first-hand, they are called living scriptures. Holy utterance. Sacred pronouncements. Modern-day revelation.

The speakers chosen for General Conference have all prayed and fasted for weeks – possibly months – about the messages that the Lord wants them to speak this weekend. give this weekend. Their topics are never assigned. So, if you ever hear any repetition – listen up! That’s always a sign that the Lord must REALLY want us to hear that! When they speak with the power of the Holy Spirit, and we listen with the Holy Spirit, something marvelous happens. We hear the messages that we personally need at this moment our life. OK, that is so exciting! That’s why I can’t ever sleep on “Conference Eve!” You do not have to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint to watch General Conference, or a member to be inspired. The only qualification you ever need to hear God’s personal messages to you is to be a child of God (hint: if you’re reading this, you qualify).

For the past seven years I have had the extra special blessing of being a part of General Conference in a personal capacity – sitting in the same room and even sitting behind the same podium of those inspired speakers – as I’ve sung with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I’ll be singing this weekend, and the music is beautiful! Each song has a powerful message and is it’s own musical sermon. This weekend is extra special music because Conference happens to coincide with Easter!

When the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings (Saturday morning session and both Sunday sessions), my family likes to play “I Spy” and try to catch a glimpse of me [hint: far left, third row aisle seat].
