“With the light of a new dawn, we move forward”
Unfortunately, this post comes as “old news” to most, however I have been recovering from a bad virus and I have not had the strength to post this important announcement. I would still like to include this today on my blog, as it is an historic event and one that is important to me personally.
On Monday February 4, 2008 it was officially announced that Thomas S. Monson, 80, has been appointed the new president , prophet and leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His two counselors chosen are President Henry B. Eyring, 74, first counselor, and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, 67, as second counselor.
President Monson is the 16th President and prophet of the church in this dispensation, beginning with Joseph Smith in 1830. This continues the unbroken chain. It has been a great blessing to have the succession run so smoothly. There is no surprize having President Monson named our leader, as succession always goes to the most senior apostle (seniority is based on longest service, and not by age). We were anxiously awaiting whom President Monson would choose as his two counselors.
I am personally thrilled that Elder Eyring and Elder Uchtdorf were chosen. This will be an energetic and dynamic presidency and I look forward to raising my hand and sustaining this new First Presidency at the General Conference of the church on April 5th. It will be a special privilege to sing at that exciting event.
For those who may have missed the press conference announcement, I have posted a link to it here. This has a length of approximately 40 minutes: WATCH NEWS CONFERENCE
