The Morning After An Election

Our nation is experiencing the “morning after” syndrome of a presidential election.

After managing to drag out the anticipation, mudslinging, media blitz and emotional roller coaster ride for over two years I don’t think it is surprising for most Americans to wake up with an anticlimactic political hangover. Of course, there are those who still have the energy left to drape themselves in sack cloth and ashes, or to spontaneously break out into a victory dance. But, I suspect there are many in the middle left scratching their heads and saying “So. There it is.”

Anyway, I am not a political pundit. I have nothing profound or pundit-y to say. I’m personally relieved it’s ‘over’. I’m proud of our country that so many went out and voted, especially the younger generation. (Hopefully, all of you will keep that up every November) It is also gratifying to see that the USA democratic process once more flowed along pretty much as outlined by our Founding Fathers. (with no embarrassing “hanging chads”!) So, in the end, all the teams get to shake hands and go back into the business of actually running the country, instead of incessantly talking about it.

I think we each deserve a nice vacation now, don’t you think? Hey, I’m all about escapism. I gave CNN approximately 5 minutes of my time last night. Then I ended up landing on the Disney channel watching a ridiculous movie with my kids entitled “My Date With The President’s Daughter”. OK. My kids actually gave up and left the room after 40 minutes. But I sat there transfixed to the tube as if watching a horrifying accident…impossible to avert my eyes….

I can’t believe I just admitted that to all of you.

Anyway, In the spirit of “One Nation, Under God, Indivisible” – and, so forth…and also a reminder not to take ourselves quite so seriously.

Enjoy this little video dose of cheery musical patriotism! God Bless America! – MoSop

  1. I just laughed the entire way through that video.
Thank you for posting it on your blog.

I, too am not a pundit, and am glad it is over, and that we live in a country where there is not a political coup with the changing of government.

Thanks so much for the LOL!
