Today (Jan 6th) is an exciting day in the eyes of millions of children around the world who celebrate Three Kings Day. This is also known as the 12th Day of Christmas (of ’12 drummers drumming’ fame), Twelfth Night (of Shakespeare fame), and Epiphany. Although Three Kings Day is not a common tradition celebrated here in the USA (nor something I personally grew up with) I really love the idea of Christmas Day being devoted to celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ our Savior, and a separate day set aside for the presents; where children receive their holiday gifts from the Magi (Wise Men: Melchior, Gaspar and Balthasar), who brought the first gifts of Christmas.
Such a lovely way to keep the holiday centered on Christ.
So, whether or not you are celebrating Three Kings Day today, take a moment to reflect on God’s greatest gift to the world (John 3:16).

I discovered that it is also a Three Kings Day tradition that the Christmas Tree is taken down. hmmm… mine is still standing forlornly in the living room waiting to be tucked away. I guess tonight is the night! – MoSop

What a beautiful video. I heard a preacher once say that the gifts the Magi brought were what supported Joseph, Mary and Jesus during the time they stayed in Egypt. I don’t think that’s in the Bible, but it makes sense. God always provides. One of my favorite Christmas Carols is We Three Kings. It just has that sound of the Orient to it.
I didn’t know about Three Kings Day though. I always learn something from your blog, Holly. Thank you for being so faithful to write it.
