All of us have “red-letter days” – when something particularly momentous and memorable happens. But, right now it’s a “red-letter life”! Soooooo much has happened over the past two weeks that it’s hard to take it all in. I honestly have no idea where to start to “catch up” or try to share it all!
I could blog a hundred posts about our historic General Conference weekend of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 31-April 1, 2018. And, that’s only half of my momentous existence.
Here’s the “highlight reel”:
- A Solemn Assembly was held for our newly sustained President & prophet of the church! The last Solemn Assembly was held in April 2008 when Thomas S. Monson was sustained. This year at the passing of President Monson, President Russell M. Nelson takes the helm.

This was a very special event to be a part of and I will never forget the sight of nearly Twenty-Two Thousand hands being raised in unison inside the Conference Center – and millions more across the globe – the sacred silence – and a feeling of utter peace and spiritual power.

- Two new apostles were called and announced – both of non-American heritage (Chinese & Brazilian)! Eight New General Authorities were also announced representing multiple continents across the world! The gospel is truly spreading throughout all the earth as prophesied.

~~~~
- Two new women’s Presidencies: The Primary General Presidency and the Young Women General Presidency were reorganized and sustained.
- Singing For Conference was an incredible experience, and this one was extra special as my 10 Year Anniversary. Since April 2008, I have sung as a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in every General Conference. You can hear all the April 2018 Conference music here.
- The Word of God: OH, SOOO MANY incredible, inspired messages! Like I said, countless blog posts are waiting for me to write and share…
~~~~
- Groundbreaking changes announced!! The Home & Visiting teaching programs are now called MINISTERING – with our young men and young women joining for these ministering assignments.
- Elders Quorum was expanded. In a related supporting change to the Ministering, the Priesthood organization dissolved the High Priest Group quorum, and integrated it back into the Elder’s Quorum!
[Side Note: My husband – who was serving as High Priest Group Leader for our ward was basically released from his calling over the General Conference pulpit. That certainly doesn’t happen every day… or basically ever.]

- SEVEN stunning new Temple site announcements drew audible gasps building into a crescendo of cheers from the audience … including INDIA and RUSSIA – shocking! – as well as a a temple in Layton, Utah which is personally significant to me since it will be constructed just a 5 minute drive from my house! (Whoo Hoo!)

….Oh my goodness, SERIOUSLY JUST SO MUCH EXCITEMENT Elder Holland said we might have heart attacks!!
President Nelson has definitely started his leadership at the helm “with a BANG”, or as Elder Holland described, a “Rush of Revelation“! The energy and vibrancy he has infused into the church is revitalizing – despite being in his 94th year of life – His pace is nothing short of miraculous! God upholds His prophets.
BUT WAIT… THERE’S MORE!
If you thought General Conference weekend was a lot to take in – well, that’s just the beginning for our family!
- WEDDING BELLS: Our oldest daughter will be married in less than a month (25 days from today to be exact…and yes we are excitedly counting down). This is our first child to be married, so it is a milestone family event. Lots of final planning – including a myriad of little details – are all in full swing at our house.
- GRADUATION – our youngest daughter is graduating from college this weekend! Another milestone not only for her, but also for Mr. Mo & me as she transitions fully into adulthood, and we launch ourselves (almost) into the “empty-nesting” phase of life.
- MISSION #2 FAREWELL: My parents gave their Mission Farewell talks to our ward the Sunday prior to General Conference weekend, and the day after General Conference they entered the new Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo where they received training and instruction for 1 week. We got to spent one final weekend together as as a family, and give our final hugs and kisses last weekend before they officially packed up their car and began driving their cross country road trip to Louisville, Kentucky! (This is their second senior couple mission together, and although we are going to miss them so much, we are also so proud and thrilled).

CHANGE IS GOOD!
Whew! OK. I think I mentioned most of the big things.
There is nothing more certain in life than change. Over the past 3 weeks we have been introduced to a whirlwind of change!
It’s a bit overwhelming, but we’re learning to surf the wave! I feel so blessed. Stay tuned for a new blog post coming (hopefully) very soon that I’m excited to share!
In closing, here was one of my favorite musical experiences during General Conference – singing this rousing new arrangement of the hymn Let Us All Press On at the conclusion of General Conference!.
Love, MoSop
