I returned home from choir rehearsal tonight to this sweet man waiting with these gorgeous flowers #love!
Happy Anniversary to us!! Its been 30 whole years ago today (yes, THIRTY) we knealt across an altar and said "Yes!" to spending infinity and beyond together, to serving one another, laughing together, crying together and working hard to problem solve and learn through all the ups and downs and twists and turns of life. Together.
We've been so poor together, we've experienced unemployment, welfare, illness, addiction, recovery, hospitalizations, mental health challenges, spiritual crises, ... and raising children for all those years from infant to adult 24/7 was definitely the toughest challenge of all on our marriage! Dont forget spending time with each other! Looking back through some of our serious issues, I wonder how we ever survived?!? I dont have all the answers. But, I do know there's been some divine intervention more than once! We both have kept trying our best. We talk a LOT to each other. TALK TALK TALK. We Communicate. We Listen with our heart to what each other are trying to say but seldom have all the right words. We are each other's best cheerleader and confidant. Being able to trust each other is everything. And, we simply really like being with each other! Marry your best friend - the person you can be totally 100% yourself with, able to show all your "warts" and flaws and quirkiness and insecurities to because you know they will love you even more, and you feel safe with. Marry the person who can feel that same way - authentic and safe with you. It was that way for us from the first night we met. I felt like I was suddenly "home". He says he felt that way too. Like we had always known each other. When you find each other like that, and you make this life commitment to each other, then hold on very tight cause the ride is going to get bumpy and scary and sad and also joyful and breathtaking!!! When 30 years suddenly arrives you will realize it's all been worth it, and such a WONDERFUL gift.
So, off we go now, on to the next new adventure of experiencing marriage as "Grandma and Grandpa" now. Lots to learn, and we've only just begun!
